Chinatown Plaza
Boldly lit in bright red and yellow, the 45-foot vertical “Chinatown Plaza” sign at Keefer and Quebec streets was unveiled by Chinatown community members, city councillors, and the mayor at a ceremony in March 2010.
“Vancouver’s Chinatown was historically a vibrant business hub decorated with colourful neon signs, and we’re determined to bring economic prosperity back to the neighbourhood.”
-Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson
The sign is part of the “Great Beginnings” program, a municipal project to revitalize historic urban centres like Chinatown. Part of the program offers grants for business owners to install neon signs on their storefronts, bringing vibrancy back to the streets.
