The Rio Theatre
An East Vancouver landmark, the Rio Theatre has operated since 1938. The theatre started serving alcoholic beverages in May 2012 after a drawn-out two-year struggle to license the venue, even though other, similar theatres in Pacific Northwest states have been serving alcohol for years.
Today, the Rio is a multi-purpose culture hub and home to festivals, concerts, and live screenings of sporting events in addition to its usual movie lineup.
